Derwentside Athletics Club is delighted to announce that we have been awarded a £1,000 grant to support the development of our club. This funding will be used to enhance both our junior and ability sections, ensuring that we can continue to provide opportunities for athletes of all levels.
The funding will provide essential support for the ability section, which offers dedicated training for children and young adults who are neurodivergent or have physical or learning disabilities. We also plan to invest in updating some tired equipment, including new javelins. By introducing more events, we aim to provide a well-rounded experience for our members and encourage participation in a wider variety of track and field activities.
This is an exciting step forward in making athletics more accessible to all.
This grant was one of 33 awards provided to sports organisations, amateur theatre groups, and community associations across the local area. A fund of £50k was provided from the dissolution of the former Derwentside Trust for Sports and Arts, known as Leisureworks.
A spokesperson from the trustees quoted: “We are extremely happy to use this fund to support a huge range of organisations with a reach across the former Derwentside District Council Area. Our decision to fund these organisations recognises the immense work of volunteers across the area and how much difference even a small amount can make to these organisations.”
At Derwentside AC, we are committed to growing the club and providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all athletes. Whether you’re looking to get started with athletics, improve your performance, or try something new, now is a great time to get involved.
